10 Things USA Basketball's Tyrese Haliburton Can’t Live Without
Released on 07/24/2024
What up y'all?
It's Tyrese Haliburton here,
point guard at the Indiana Pacers,
and these are 10 things I can't live without.
[upbeat music]
So my first essential would be the Bible.
Over the last two years,
my religion has become very important in my life.
Just understanding that I'm made in the image of God
in a world where you have a bad game
and they're killing you on social media
or confidence goes up and down,
I can always come right here.
This is my peace.
Just understand that I made in his image
and he's the only one who can really judge me.
Growing up, the verse that everybody got tattooed on
was Philippians 4:13,
I can do all through Christ who strengthens me,
and I always believed in that, but I never read the Bible,
so it's been important to me the last two years.
I ain't go to church or nothing like that growing up.
So when I got to the NBA, they do chapel before every game.
So when sixties on the clock, there's always a meeting
where both teams, coaches, everybody's welcome to come in
and do a 15 minute service.
Harrison Barnes was my vet
and so I used to always go with him.
And then when I got traded,
just start going with Buddy and now Buddy's gone.
So it is really just me most of the time
and it's been really good for me.
Alright, so my next essential would be these right here.
Just some loafers every days. These are Doc Martens.
Everybody got these. Everybody should own a pair of these.
I got these in every color.
I mean, I got a pink pair, purple pair, blue pair, red pair.
And these right here is some vintage Prada's.
I'm a grail demon. I'd be on grail looking for everything.
So I be calling Michael Jackson's or something like that.
They look fly so I rock with 'em.
Last two, three seasons, my style's changed a lot.
I used to be like every other player in the NBA,
wear sneakers to every game with a graphic tee,
some colored jeans and call it a day.
But I realized I wanted to switch my style.
I'd be a little different than everybody.
So I started wearing these.
I remember the first game that I wore these was in Brooklyn
and I felt weird,
but I also felt fly at the same time.
So then I kind of just stuck with it.
And now it's really my everyday,
my go-to, my stylist, Olivier, we start doing that.
This isn't just for the tunnel or for show,
this is really who I am.
It's just my everyday look. It just really fits who I am.
My next essential would be white tees.
[chuckles]
I literally wear a white T-shirt every day.
I always keep a fresh pack of white tees on me
and I'm a bad folder.
So y'all see right now it's just wrinkled up.
But I always keep a steamer in my suitcase too.
Make sure I steam the shirts before I wear 'em.
I got a bunch of fresh packs in my house at all times.
So they start getting dirty or whatever,
I get rid of it, open a new pack.
[Interviwer] Is it one wear per shirt?
Nah, nah, nah, nah. Hey, hey, hey.
I mean, it is not one wear per shirt.
I mean, I got money, but that's ridiculous.
I'm gonna get my wears outta these shirts.
I'm gonna get a few in.
Once I start seeing the bacon neck where it get all crazy,
it's gotta go.
When I'm doing laundry and I got fresh pair of white socks
or I grab a shirt and I grab a fresh pair of white socks,
if the white's too off, then the shirt gotta go.
[easy mood music]
My next essential would be my gaming setup.
A lot of people would be on PlayStation or Xbox.
I kind of moved away from that, I went to PC at the crib,
but I realized that I do everything on PC at the crib,
then I travel and I'd be on Xbox or PlayStation
and I don't have my data, my save on it.
So I put all my games on this right here, my hard drive.
You know, I could play everything out here,
WWE 2K, Call of Duty, Madden, everything out here.
So that makes my life easy.
I'm not a mouse and keyboard player.
I don't really know how to type for real.
I used to cheat in class and type, but like...
So I always keep a controller on me
and I know people like Joel see me with this controller.
He was cooking me. He's a PlayStation guy.
I grew up a PlayStation guy,
but this connects to Windows the best.
And then this right here, my mic,
I recently started a YouTube channel
with my little brother, Haliburton Bros
Make sure y'all go subscribe.
You know, we can play through the Cloud or whatever,
put it on the mic and be good to record and get videos out.
The main game we play in my house is WWE.
Now that I made my little WWE appearance in the Garden,
hopefully 2K can transfer my character from NBA to WWE
and I can be a little DLC
or a little Easter egg in the game.
That would be dope. That would be really cool.
My top five games ever.
Number five, I'm gonna go with Mario Party.
You can pick any of them.
I grew up playing on the Wii.
So whatever Mario Party was on the Wii. Number five.
Number four I would say is Mario Kart.
That's just easy for everybody.
There's real smoke on that game.
Number three, SmackDown, Here comes the Pain.
I think it's the best wrestling game ever, no question.
Number two, NBA 2K11.
Maybe it's just nostalgia that does it for me.
But Mike was on the cover
and I think that was the first game of my career.
And then number one, Call of Duty, Modern Warfare II.
I mean, unbelievable game, best maps, real smoke on there.
And that was when I really got in the Call of Duty,
getting in game chat, not party chat,
where the real smoke is.
The 360, I had the mic that was hooked over one ear.
That was hard.
My next essential would be my jewelry box.
I recently got into watches over the last two years.
So I got a Cartier Crash on right now.
This is my dream watch.
After the end season tournament, we got that little bonus,
spent it all on this watch.
What else I got?
This is my first ever watch, Rolex Presidential Day-Date.
My newest pickup, the Cartier Pebble on a white band.
Now this right here is one of my cheapest watches,
but it's the most sentimental and my favorite by far.
Back in 2023 when I signed my deal,
my agent called me to tell me that the deal was done.
I was in a store and I was so geeked.
This is the first watch I saw. And I said I want that one.
If I'm playing bad or something,
I put this watch on and I don't know why.
It just like makes you think humble beginnings.
My logo chain.
I've had this since the draft. I wore this on draft night.
I got a white gold one, I got a gold one.
What I got under here? I don't even know, fam.
Oh yeah, and I got this homer chain.
I ain't really seen anybody in the NBA rock this for real.
So that's what made me get it, just to be different.
I like being different.
You know, I got a couple more chains in the works right now.
So I'm excited for y'all to see them when they done.
My next essential would be my toiletry bag.
I'm sure y'all see every NBA player got a toiletry bag.
Y'all see I stopped the low cuts, start growing my hair out.
So I need curl product,
all that stuff to make sure I'm looking right.
Curl activator. I told y'all I cut my hair.
Defining spray. Told y'all I cut my hair.
What's this? Face wash.
I put a little travel thing and I wrote on it, face wash.
Yeah, I'm tripping for that.
What's this? Face lotion.
Continental wipes, super essential.
Continental wipes for show.
Deodorant, leaving conditioner, toothpaste,
and my toothbrush.
And that leads me to my next essential,
which would be my barber.
[easy mood music]
This is my barber, Terran.
He been cutting me since I got traded to Indiana.
It's funny, we met on the road in Orlando.
He lived in Toronto so he was just on the move
and that's where we met.
We been rocking ever since.
Yeah, it's been a long time now.
I traveled around for a few different clients
and then, you know, this is one of my main guys,
not just a client at this point.
He lets me work on my Toronto slang.
Yeah, dunno why I go in there, you know?
Dunno found, dunno. Yeah, whenever.
Come on, broski. All that, you know?
I ain't gonna lie though...
You got...
Right there?
[razor buzzing]
And he the king of...
My cut gonna be an hour- And a half.
Hour, 45 minutes.
I'm gonna be in the chair for a minute.
But it is worth it. It's always worth it.
Can't be looking like a scrub.
I've seen some dudes in the league,
I ain't saying no names, bro. [laughing]
My next essential would be my iPad.
I spend a lot of time out here on the road
watching movies, TV shows.
They send me my film through here.
So this is what I watch on the road.
If I'm not in my room, you know, if I'm on the go,
I usually have this with me.
TV shows I'm watching right now.
Criminal Minds, Evolution. I started Entourage recently.
I gotta watch The Wire, Breaking Bad, something else.
Big passion of mine, WWE, I watch that a lot.
Sometimes I'll just go on Peacock,
go to old WWE pay-per-views or whatever,
and just watch 90 stuff looking like Stone Cold.
The Rock, young Taker, young Sean.
If it was up to me
and I could transfer my basketball ability
to be good at something else,
I'd be a WWE superstar for sure.
Oh yeah, she would kill me if I didn't say,
I've been watching Gossip Girl a little bit too.
XOXO. Me and wife even watching Gossip Girl.
So, that Gossip Girl fire, I don't care what nobody say.
My next essential would be headphones.
I keep two pairs on me at all times.
I keep earbuds, AirPods,
and then I keep over the ear joints for the plane.
'Cause I fall asleep. These gonna fall out.
I don't do phone calls without AirPods.
It feels like weird when I have the phone in my ear,
it's gotta be AirPods.
And then just over the ear ones for the plane. That's all.
I'm not a height music guy.
I never really got down with that.
I like to listen to stuff that calms me down,
some chill stuff.
And I really like a old soul for real.
I really listen to a lot of old stuff.
So Michael Jackson, my all time favorite artist.
I listen to a lot of that. I listen to a lot of Drake.
I feel like I grew up in his come up.
I ain't gonna lie, Shaboozey put me on the country music.
I wouldn't listen to country like that. I wasn't jacking it.
And then Shaboozey came out.
And I met him at the White Party. Super cool dude.
Once I started listening to Shaboozey,
then I got into Morgan Wallen, Tommy Richmond.
Tommy Richmond, nice. BigXthaPlug, he's like that.
But yeah, I listen to a lot of old music for real.
Like Jay-Z, Ye,
Alicia Keys, stuff like that.
My next essential would be my back pillow.
I've had back problems since I was 16,
so I probably got six, seven of these at the crib
just for my gaming chair, dinner table.
I just grab one to go on the road, whatever.
It's essential. I need to be sitting upright.
You can probably see right now.
Ever since I pulled this out, I'm started slouching.
But it is supposed to gimme that lumbar support
to make me sit upright.
This is definitely an essential.
Now we done with that, I'm putting it back.
There we go.
Appreciate you having me GQ.
Hope y'all enjoyed my essentials.
See y'all next time. Peace.
